The FIVE tag

10 Years Ago:
<1998>
I turned 21. I was working full time at a law firm in Newport Beach from 8-5 and taking a full load of college classes at night from 7-10pm at Orange Coast College. I was a clean freak - vacuumed every day. I was in great shape - taking aerobics and weight training classes at my college. I was living with Becky (met her in speech class!) in a 2 bdrm 2bth apartment in HB and had 2 cats (Jewels & Scooter). I was 'dating' Joe Prado, father of Andrew. I bought my first new car all by myself - the black Jetta - I loved those seat warmers! I constantly changed my hair at the hair dresser - from very dark to blonde to dark w/blonde streaks. Wait, has that changed? Nope! ha ha.
My dad and mom at OCC graduation for my general A.A.

5 Years Ago:

<2003>
I graduated from Cypress Dental Hygiene School. I am still friends with these girls today!We were SO HAPPY on grad night!
We moved to Oceanside. I was baptized for the second time as I rededicated my life to the Lord. I was pregnant and miscarried - twice. I got my first digital camera and a new computer. Mike bought his first new truck. I weighed 10 more pounds than when I got married the year before. I watched "they sold their souls for rock and roll" video series and was never the same. I handed out witnessing tracts and toothbrushes to trick-or-treaters on Halloween. We didn't have kids yet so we went snowboarding a lot - we could afford it! I got fired from a dental office for being pregnant. I thought the end was near when SD was on fire. I wanted the Lord to take me to heaven if I couldn't have babies... I cried myself to sleep every night for a few weeks. I learned to mountain bike (sort of!). I lost Zoe kitty to a coyote. I ran in the morning before work with my sister who lived only 3 miles away. I had a great job as a Dental Hygienist just 1 mile away from my home in Oceanside... and became good friends with the receptionist, Jennifer.

5 Months Ago:
We celebrated our first Hanukkah. I almost got a divorce...December is always very stressful for us. I was happy again when the new year came. I only got 3 hours of sleep at a time - sometimes less if both kids woke up - and only 6 hours total sleep if I was lucky. We were scheming on how to go away next year for Christmas. I was so stressed out I couldn't even look at one of my scrapbook magazines. I was waiting patiently for Christy Beckman to give birth. I weighed over 10 pounds more than I do now! I started to BLOG...now maybe that's my problem - hmmm... I LOVED MY BOYS LIKE CRAZY but wished they would just sleep a little more! Jackson taught Owen how to skate on his new Tony Hawk.I gave our babysitter a 2 page scrapbook layout ("Thankful for you, Beth") inside a book as a gift - and will continue to fill it for her.
I WANTED THE RAPTURE MORE THAN ANYTHING and prayed for it daily.

5 Things on my to-do-list today:

1. Clean...mainly LAUNDRY! The maid is coming tomorrow - yippee!
2. Workout - class at the gym and run
3. Park play date canceled, so I scanned in old photos instead

Engagement tag

Mike and I have known eachother since 7th grade. In 8th grade we were "boyfriend-girlfriend" for 2 entire weeks (long time in those days!) and even though I was the one to break up with him, I've had a crush on him ever since. I always encouraged my friends to date him in high school (2 of them did!) and I dated his. We lost track of eachother in college and then met up again at Christmas time in 2001. I reluctantly went to PB Bar and Grill with friends to see "people from high school" that were in town. When I saw Mike I talked to him all night long and started calling him. I remembered that he was shy and that if I wanted to hang with him I better make the calls... so I did. I talked him into going snowboarding with me and I think this sparked the flame for him. We had our first kiss (since 8th grade, ha ha) on New Year's Eve and were married May 17- just 5 1/2 months later. The actual engagement? Ha ha, there wasn't one and I tease him all the time - "you never proposed!" On sunday night we were talking about how lame it was that we lived an hour apart (me in Huntington Beach and he in Encinitas) and how much we spent on gas... and won't it be nice to save money when we're married and we can consolidate bills by living together. Then he says, "well, how about friday? let's get married on friday." I ask him if he is serious and then say, OK! So I got a dress and some rings, called my sister to take our pictures and be our witness, and we got married on Friday May 17, 2002. We spent three hours (after we got home from going out to eat) calling our family and friends telling them what we'd done. I had a great time calling people and saying, "Hi, this is Mrs. Baker!" and Mike said, "Hey, guess what we did today? Dude, I got married!" Everyone was happy for us and Mike's parents threw us a reception at their house a few weeks later. Best part: total cost of dress, rings, and ceremony was less than $800! We plan to renew our vows and have a "real" wedding on our 10 year anniversary.... this was way before digital pics, so I'll have to dig some out, scan them in and then post. What a pain =)

Book Tagged

This is what you do:
1. Pick up the nearest book (at least 123 pages).
2. Turn to page 123.
3. Find the 5th sentence
4. Post the 5th sentence on your blog.
5. Tag 5 people.

I don't know how all you moms find time to read... but I try. I have way too much reading material. There were 3 books in my reach (yes, on my desk!), so I picked the most interesting one.

From: The Mentoring Mom, 11 ways to model Christ for your Child by Jackie Kendall

'I whispered, "I'm getting ready to deliver a new spiritual baby."

She is sharing a story about witnessing to someone over a 3 hour dinner. Her husband called her cell phone right before they were about to pray and the 5th sentence is her response to him.
I hope that someday soon I have 3 hours to witness to someone over dinner...

I don't know very many people with blogs... and the people I do know have already posted this. So... I tag: Jaime, Barry & Lee (aka Katie), Jay & Colleen, Mike, & the anonymous bloggers that read my blog w/out commenting - you know who you are!
