There are only 12 more days ‘til Christmas and we’re countin’ down the days! This is not to be confused with The 12 Days OF Christmas, which my friend from Europe was explaining to me tonight (total coincidence to the post).
Jackson made this Advent calendar at Grace Lutheran preschool. I took a sharpie and wrote the numbers on it…mainly because I’m lazy and didn’t want to have to count the rings everyday, but also to teach him to look at the date and match the numbers.
The days are flying by. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the little candy cane in the middle of our Veggie Tale Advent. Where has December gone? Or 2009 for that matter.
The 25th is just around the corner. I remember the magical feeling of Christmas I had as a childand wonder if my own children feel it too.
Let’s be real though…my 4 year old knows that “Santa” is just a story. Pretend as it were. When you ask him what Christmas means he gives a very grown up theological explanation. It’s so rad. “Well Mom, it’s Jesus’ birthday. He was born in Bethlehem in a stinky barn with the animals because there was no room in the hotel. It was tax season and there were too many people in the city. The wise men brought Him presents and worshipped Him.” That’s MY boy!!!

Your 4 year old doesn't believe in Santa? I would be devastated if Chasey didn't believe in Santa anymore!! I'm sure your kids have the same magical feeling that you had! I know my kids do!
Love the nativity. So beautiful!
I teach my kids the true meaning of Christmas too. We bake Jesus a birthday cake every year and sing Happy Birthday before we open gifts in the morning.
I do love the magic of Christmas and the excitement.
We are a family of BELIEVERS, and Santa visits our house. My kids are getting older but the spirit of giving that Santa brings is magical to us. I think it's all about how children are taught.
I do not like when children are brats and expect or demand. I was at church on Sunday and heard one boy praying, "Please help us to get all the presents we asked for." I felt sad that he hadn't been taught. I'm glad your boys know the true meaning of Christmas. What a good Mom to teach them.
And I agree, the time is flying by. I can't believe Christmas is almost here.
