Home Made Salsa

My neighbor gave us about 30 tomatoes and my sister gave us a bag full of peppers. So my dad and I decided to make salsa....
These tomatoes taste even better than they look!
Step One: find recipe. Use one of the many cookbooks I own and don't use? Nope. Google it!
Step 2: go to Vons and pick up items you don't have. The checker was amazed that I was buying Habanero peppers. "What are you going to do with THESE???" My dad sampled a piece and yelped... I took one small lick and my lips were burning for about an hour. Throw them out? Nope, we used TWO! Mike decided it could've even used one more. We're a spicy bunch over here on the Baker Acre.1. (1.1 acres that is)

Step 3: Change the recipe. See, I don't follow directions very well at all. I told you so. I added CILANTRO, RED LONG CHILI PEPPERS, HABANERO PEPPERS, and FRESH GARLIC. I did not use pickling salt, but only because Vons didn't have it. I used 1 TSP Garlic Salt and 3 TSP Sea Salt.Step 4: Chop, yell at kids to stay away from dangerous spicy peppers, chop, yell, chop, and laugh. Oh yes, and wash hands before touching anything! Mixed everything but the onion and green peppers (below) in a pan and simmered "until thick." Not very clear directions, but it turned out great (above).
Step 5: Mix the warm with the cold ingredients and put in fridge to cool.

Step 6: Call husband and tell him to pick up chips on his way home. How do you forget to buy chips when you're making salsa? Mommy brain!

Step 7: Inspect ingredients on husband's choice of chips. He did a great job! No Hydrogenated oils or HFCS! I've almost got him trained =)
Step 8: Impress husband so much that he offers to go out again and get carne and pollo asada to grill for burritos.

We had a great dinner with fabulous salsa and even had room for dipping some chips. I can't wait to eat more tomorrow. Man, I'm on a cooking roll! Watch out Martha Stewart.
