What Lies Beneath

Remember on the 1st day of Spring I made a list "to do" for spring cleaning? Well, the number one priority on my list was to find out and clean what lies beneath the master bed. We have a cat, a good cat. Her name is Jewels. She is 13 years old and a scaredy cat. She lives under the bed and in the closet. Only to come out at night when I hang in the room. She loves me...and only me =). Like I said, she lives under the bed.

Our bed is a low rider. It is impossible to get anything underneath it - a vacuum especially. Even the little boys can't crawl under there. It's a huge CalKing - so it's not easily moved either. OK, those are my excuses. The facts are that it hasn't been moved and cleaned underneath since we moved in...5 years ago. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS! Especially if you have a cat that lives underneath it.I employed my husband to do the heavy lifting (since I was 7+ months pregnant).
There was stuff under there I had no idea about - the BASSINET to my pack-n-play! OH NO!
Don't worry though, I looked up natural ways to clean it and it came sparkly clean for new baby.
Basically vinegar, the hose, and sunshine. Plus a few baby wipes =)

This is the dust/cat hair built up on the bed frame. Um - ew! We change our sheets weekly, thank you very much!
Various forms of cat puke. Hairballs, grass, food, whatever.
It's what cats do...but eeewww there were like 20 piles.
1st step: dry vacuum
2nd step: break out the cleaning agents
3rd step: STEAM CLEAN carpet and polish the bed frame
BEFORE
AFTER
Since I was already there, I steam cleaned the entire bedroom and took down the curtains to wash them. Talk about allergens. There is a reason they call it "spring cleaning" and not "1/2 decade cleaning" - it should be done once a year for the health and happiness of the family =)
I swear we can all breathe easier in that room now! The cat hid for a few days, but once she came out she ran around the bedroom with glee and meowed like crazy with happiness =)

What is lurking under your bed????

Good for you for making the effort to see what was there. And I'm een more glad you got it so clean, but that just reinforces the fact that we will never have a cat. Not that my house doesn't have its share of dust and who knows what hiding in my corners. But I can't even show this to Dave. He would die.
